Born in Third age 2644. Died in 2850.

Son of Thrór.

Married to ?.

Father to Thorin II, Frerin and Dís

Thráin II was the last possessor of the last of the seven Dwarven-rings.

3 Age.

T.A.2746. Thorin II born.

T.A.2751. Frerin born.

T.A.2760. Dís born.

T.A.2770. Thráin escaped together with his sons, daughter and father the onslaught of Smaug upon Erebor, Dale and the Lonely Mountain.

T.A.2770-2790. Where they go and what they do for a couple years are uncertain. They probably goes north to those Dwarves of Durin`s line still living in Ered Mithrin and some of the refugees probably goes to the Iron Hills where Grór lives.

In time Thrór, Thráin`s father, wants to go to Moria to look upon and if possible reestablish the Dwarf-kingdom of old, he is strongly advised not to but in his heart is a yearning who cant be silenced and he sets out with one companion; Nár.

T.A.2790. Nár the companion of Thrór returns from Moria and tells Thráin his father was killed by Azog,

T.A.2790-2793. Thráin II. and Thorin II. gathers the scattered people of Durin ( Náin + Dain II. from the Iron Hills + those still in Ered Mithrin ) and prepared for war upon the Orcs in Hithaeglir.

T.A.2793-2799. Not much knowledge has reached us of the war to the final battle but it was a cruel and viscious war mostly fought in deep caves and dark tunnels but though the Dwarves were lesser in count their hot anger and fury drove the Orcs on retreat and many an Orcish dwelling were ruined and destroyed in these years and the surviving Orcs fled to Moria.

T.A. 2799. The war ends with the battle of Nanduhirion where the Dwarves were victorious but they have had seriously heavy losses and they were to diminished to re-enter Moria. Thráin II and Thorin II wanders westward.

T.A.2802. Thráin and his son Thorin II settles in exile in Ered Luin. Here they prospered though they were forced to work with iron.

T.A.2802-2841. Thráin becomes restless, he could not put the thoughts of former wealth, the Arkenstone, gold and gems out of his mind ( Because of the ring ? ) and he ponders upon revenge over Smaug too and his heart turns towards Erebor again.

T.A. 2841-2845. With Balin and Dwalin and some few others he sets out but he his ever pursued by the servants of Sauron. Wolves pursued him, Orcs waylaid him, evil birds shadowed his path, and the more he tried to go north the more he was driven back.

One night south of Gladden near the eaves of Mirkwood he vanished out of their camp. Despite a long search he is not found by his friends and finally they return to Ered Luin. The truth is that Thráin was captured and imprisoned in Dol Guldur in Mirkwood where Sauron torments and questioning him and takes the last Dwarvish Ring from him.

T.A.2845-2850. Thráin II. is kept as prisoner in the dungeons of Dol Guldur and he perish there in torment in 2850, but before he dies Gandalf enters the dungeons and finds him. He was too far away to even remember his own name but he hands Gandalf a map and a key before he dies.
