Son of Fingolfin and Anairë.
Born in Valinor V.Y.t.? ( 1240-1245 ? ) Died in F.A.472.
Brother of Turgon and Aredhel.
Father of Gil-Galad.
Valian Years of the Trees.
V.Y.t. 1240-1245. If we can assume that Anairë, Fingons mother, was born around the same years as Fingolfin his father then we, from the accounts of marriage among Elves, can say that Anairë in 1240 would reach the age were marriage was natural. If so, again from the accounts of marriage the first child would often be born soon after the marriage. In that case Fingon would most probably have been born between these years.
V.Y.t.1495. When Fëanor came to Tirion and spoke harsh and fell words Fingolfin spoke against him and in this both Turgon and Fingon followed their father and wrath nearly came to drawn swords but yet Fingon wished to see the lands of Middle-Earth.
V.Y.t.1496. Fingon, his brother Turgon and sister Aredhel and all of their people left Valinor under the command of their father following the host of Fëanor and his sons. Fëanor betrayed them when they were about to cross Helcaraxë in the ships that were stolen from the Teleri Elves in in the First Kinslaying at Alqualonde. Fingon, his brother, sister and father and Finarfins children Finrod, Orodreth, Angrod, Aegnor and Galadriel and all their people had due to the betrayel to cross Helcaraxë by foot.
V.Y.t.1500. When they arrived in Middle-Earth after the crossing of the Grinding Ice the Sun arose for the first time.
Fingon held Dor-Lomin but the chief fortress of Fingon and his father was Barad Eithel near Eithel Sirion. Fingons banner was bright blue and silver as was his fathers.
F.A.5. Fingon resolved to heal the feud that divided the Noldor and the thought of his ancient friendship with Maedhros stung his heart with grief and without aid or counsil he began to search for Maedhros and at last he found and rescued him with aid of Thorondor and their friendship was renewed and the hatred between the house of Fingolfin and Fëanor was assuaged. According to the Earliest Tales Maedhros gave Fingon the Green Stone of Fëanor but there is not any suggestions of when Maedhros did this but might have been due to Fingon`s actions here of healing the hurt between the two houses.
F.A.260. Glaurung came forth from the gates of Angband but Fingon rode against him with achers and hemmed him round with a ring of swift riders and Glaurung still young and only halfgrown could not withstand there darts and fleed back to Angband.
F.A.260-423. Maedhros who had recieved the Dragon-Helm of Azaghal for the sawing of his life when he was waylaid by Orcs upon the Dwarf-road. passed it on to Fingon as a token of friendship and remembrence of how he drowe Glaurung back to Angband. Fingon gave it to Hador when he recieved the Lordship of Dor-Lomin.
F.A.455. In this fell year Fingon and his father Fingolfin marched from Hithlum to aid Finrod and his sons when Morgoth broke the peace of Beleriand with the Battle of Sudden Flame but they were driven back to the mountains with grievious loss.
F.A.456. When his father died Fingon was held High King of the Noldor in Arda.
F.A.462. Morgoth resolved to send forces against Hithlum and the assault was bitter, but it was repelled from the passes of Ered Wethrin and the fortress of Eithel Sirion by Galdor and Hurin. Galdor who held the fortress on behalf of Fingon was slain but his son Hurin defeated the Orcs and drowe them with loss from the walls into the sands of Anfauglith. But Fingon was hard pressed to it to hold back the army that came down from the North and he was outnumbered but timely help came from Cirdan. His ships sailed into Drengist and there landed a force that came upon the West flank of the enemy. Then they had the victory and the Orcs fled, pursued by horsed archers even to Ered Engrin.
F.A.468. Maedhros began the Union of Maedhros; Fingon his friend prepared for war, taking counsil with Himring. Maplung and Beleg was given leave by Thingol to go to war and they joined themselves to the host of Fingon. From Nargothrond came Gwindor and a small company who walked benieth Fingons banner. From the Falas and Cirdan came a host and even from Ossiriand came Elves to join the war.
F.A.472. At midsummer was all ready and the army of the Union arrayed in the East and West. Fingons army was stationed in the hills of Ered Wethrin from Eithel Sirion to the Fen of Serech and Turgons host held the Passes of Sirion while Maedhros; his brothers, the Dwarves and the Swarthy Men was in the East. But treachery prevented the victory of the Elves and Fingon was in the battle of Unnumbered Tears cruelly slain by Balrogs.
