Galadriel

Artanis. ( Father-name.)

Nerwen. ( Mother-name meaning Man-maiden.)

Daughter of Finarfin and Earwen.

Born in Aman V.Y.t.1362. Departed over the sea T.A.3021.

Sister to Finrod, Orodreth, Angrod and Aegnor.

Married to Celeborn.

Mother to Amroth and Celebriand.

Galadriel were the youngest and only female of the five children. She was born in Eldamar in Valinor and her true name were Artanis. Calling her Galadriel is calling her by her nickname meaning Noble Woman and given to her by Celeborn.

Galadriel was strong of body, mind and will and she grew taller than most of any Noldor. Galadriel was accountet beuatyful, her hair was rich and golden and radiant like it was touched by the light of the two Trees. Galadriel was the greatest of the Noldor except for Fëanor but she was wiser than he and her wisdom increased within the long years. Galadriel was proud, strong and selfwilled, and like her brother Finrod who were closest to her heart of all her kin she dreamed of far lands and dominions of her own to order as she wished. But she was noble and generous and from her earliest years she had a marvellous gift of insight into minds of others but she judged with mercy and understanding and she withheld it from none save Fëanor from whom she percived a darkness she hatet and feared and there was never friendship between Fëanor and Galadriel. Because of her dreams of far lands she joined the rebellion against the Valar and came under the Doom of Mandos and even after the merciless assault upon the Teleri where she fought fiercely against Fëanor defending her mothers kin she did not turn back; her pride and now her angry desire to follow Fëanor and twart him in any-way she could in whatever lands he might come to. Pride still moved her when at the end of the Elder days Morgoth was at last overtrown she refused the pardon of the Valar and remained in Middle-Earth and it was not until the end of the Third Age when at last all she had desired in her youth came to her hand, the One Ring and the dominion of Middle-Earth, that her wisdom was full grown and she rejectet it, she passed the last test and departet from Middle-Earth forever into the uttermost West.

Valian Years of the Trees.

V.Y.t. 1449. Some tales say that Fëanor was inspired to create the Silmarils by the golden radiance of Galadriels hair and that he asked her for a tress of it but she denied and refused him. In the light of this the gift Gimli asked and was granted was not a small gesture but an honour beyond hope of even the greatest..

V.Y.t.1495. When Fëanor came to Tirion and spoke harsh and fell words Finarfin sought to calm the temper of the Noldor and tried to persuade them to ponder before deeds were done that could not be undone. But the heart of Galadriel was moved by the words of Fëanor and she was eager to leave and see the wide lands of Middle-Earth and perchance have a realm of her own but she had no great love for Fëanor and would not go under his banner.

V.Y.t.1496. Galadriel, her brothers and their people left Valinor under their father and Fingolfin after the host of Fëanor and his sons. As this the second trail came out through the Calacirya and moved ahead Araman suddenly they saw a battle was going on and their kindred among the Noldor was slain and fighting the Teleri. The host rushed forward into the battle without knowing the true reason, they thought the Teleri waylaid them on the bidding of the Valar. The host now sped behind the Teleri at the gate of Alqualondë and slew them bitterly or casted them into the sea.

( Some difficulties arises here in the battle of the First Kinslaying. It is in other places and tales told that Galadriel fought against Fëanor with her later husbond Celeborn who was of the Teleri but it is no place finally stated Celeborn was ever born or in Aman. Yet it is still possible she fought against the host of Fëanor percieving the evil and for her mothers kin.)

But whatever happened that cruel day she continued the journey towards Middle-Earth, even when her father returned to Aman she crossed Helcaraxë benieth the banner of Fingolfin after the betrayel and the burning of the ships they stole from the Teleri. These deeds made her only more eager to follow Fëanor and in any way she could twart him.

Galadriel and Celeborn forsook Beleriand and passed East over the Mountains Ered Luin and went to Eriador before the sack of Nargothrond and Menegroth and first of all the Noldor she came to the inner lands. Galadriel, Celeborn and maybe Celebriand ( If she did not stay in Imladris where Elrond had fallen in love with her. ) went to the little land between Gwatlò and Anduin in Belfalas at the place later called Dol-Amroth. Their son Amroth often visited them there, and it was not until Lòrinan was in great peril, Amroth died, and Celeborn and Galadriel went to Lòrinand.
