Rúmil was the most renowned of the masters of the lore of speech.

Rúmil the Sage of Valinor wrote the Ambarkanta ( the shaping of the World ), the original Annals of Valinor and the Lhammas ( Account of Tongues ) but in later days these were said to have been continued by Pengolod of Gondolin.

Valian Years of the Trees.

V.Y.t.1179. This year in Valinor did Rúmil create his letters and thus was the first of the Elves who devised letters and began recording and writing the tongues of the Eldar.

V.Y.t.1250. Fëanor improved the letters of Rúmil this year.
