Saeros was an Nandor-Elf at the court of Thingol and Melian and he was held high in the counsels of Thingol. In this tale told he was akin on his mothers side to Thingol and he was a good hunter but loose with his tongue and overweening of his favour with the King and he begrudged the honour Turin recieved as Thingols fosterson. Saeros / Orgof was fain of fine raiment and of jewels and whenever he could he would make fun of Turin and scorn him.
1 Age.
F.A.484. This day Turin were comming from the woods and had been travelling in far and lonely places and were wild to look at. Precisely this day it was twelve years since he departed with sorrow and grief from his mother Morwen and he was moody. Off all days Orgof chose the day to taunt Turin with his lineage and he spoke ill words of Turins mother and the people of Hithlum. Suddenly his words blazed a fierce anger in Turin, born of his sore heart, and Turin grapped a heavy drinking vessel of gold and casted it with great force in Orgof`s teeth. Orgof fell back and his head stroke the stonefloor and he died.
In the NARN I HÎN HÙRIN the story is a little different. The Elv is called Saeros, the prelude is pretty much the same but here Saeros do not die in the halls of Menegroth but in the morning when Turin are about to leave for the marches he is waylaid by Saeros. But Turin a war-hardened strong man soon had Saeros in his mercy. To teach him a lesson Saeros was stripped from all clothes and told to run if not to feel Turins sword in his back. Saeros, afraid of Turin, ran naked as a deer into the forest thinking death was behind him. But suddenly he came to a deep cleft and he tried to jump over but his foot slipped on the far side and he fell into the cleft and died.
Turin afraid he would be blamed for the death of Saeros left Doriath and indeed Thingol was angry but Nellas who had witnessed it all came forward and told the truth.
