Dorlas was a man and warrior among the people of Brethil lead by Brandir. He was a proud man, unwilling to hide and sneak around but would rather go for open battle. Dorlas did not think much of his chieftain Brandir who from childhood was lame and rather sought to lead his people by secrecy.

F.A.499. This year Turin, Hunthor and Dorlas, against the advice of Brandir, went against Glaurung who was nearing Brethil and now lay at the gorge Cabed-en-Aras by river Teiglin. At Cabed-en-Aras Dorlas`courage left him and he dared not attempt the dangerous crossing but drew back and hid in the woods burdened with shame.
