S.A.501. Manthor was the captain of the North-marshes of Brethil. He was out on patrol when his younger brother Ebor send news to him of the rumors from Asgon and his outlaws telling of Hurin. He began to search and keep an eye out for Hurin but it was Avranc, the son of Dorlas, in his patrol with Sagroth and Forhend Manthor commanded, that found Hurin laying exhausted near Cabed Nearamath. Avranc suggested that Hurin was put to death immediately. But Manthor prevented this and he deemed Avranc too young to know the difference between fireside fables and reality.
Manthor, akin and honoring the House of Hador and Hurin, lead Hurin to Amon Obel and Obel Halad but Avranc, breaking his command and filled with fear and darkness from the distorted stories of Turin and Hurin and the House of Hador ran to Hardang in Obel Halad and delivered the news of the finding of Hurin.
When Manthor and Hurin arrived at Obel Halad Hurin was imprisoned by Hardang but Manthor took the side of Hurin together with many of the Haladins and the rebellion of Brethil broke out. Before it was all over Manthor was shot by Avranc.
