Angrist
Angrist : Iron-cleaver.
Angrist was made by the Dwarven smith Telchar in Nogrod. Exactly when is not told, it might have been in the Valian years of the Trees but most likely in the First age due to the saying about the knife as is shown below.
1 Age.
F.A.7. In this year Curufin and his brother Caranthir settled in the wild lands between Himring and Lake Helevorn under Mount Rerir.
F.A.150. In this year it is said that the Fëanorian sons climbed into the Ered Luin and thus it was that Carantir and Curufin and their people came upon the Dwarves. Caranthir and Curufins people and the Dwarves did not love each other but both was eager to learn and they shared the hate of Morgoth and they made an alliance with great profit for each people. It is said the Dwarven masons and smiths learned many secrets in these days and it might be thought that Angrist was made in these years. In return for Noldorin lore of smithying the armories of the Noldor was filled with weapons and harness and since there is no other tale of trade or gift Angrist may have been a weapon in return for lore and friendship. Curufins took the knife for himself. But maybe, behind the story, there is a glint of another story. Maybe Telchar the smith intended Curufin to have the knife and in strange ways repay the haughtyness of him and his brother and their scorn of the Dwarves for there is a saying about Angrist that sounds " The knife of treacherous Dwarves" and "The Dwarvish steel of cunning blade / by treacherous smiths of Nogrod made.."
F.A.465. Beren Barahir`s son took Angrist from Curufin.
F.A.466. Angrist was used by Beren to cut out a Silmaril from the crown of Morgoth.
But the blade of Angrist snapped and broke when he tried to gain one more and the splint hit Morgoth at his chin
and he woke from the spell Luthien had cast upon him.
What afterwards became of the shards is unknown. But indeed the knife lived up to its saying.
