Lindeloksë. Name given to Laurelin by Vána.

The youngest of the Two Trees upon Ezellohar in Valinor while the oldest was Telperion. Of other names Laurelin was called Malinalda and Kulúrien and her leaves was young green with edges of of glittering gold. Her flowers swung upon her in clusters of yellow flame, formed to a glowing horn that spilled golden rain upon the ground and from her came forth warmth and a great light and her roots was in Kulullin. Laurelin and Telperion was kindled in the V.Y.3500 and from the second hour of Telperion is counted the Years of the Trees.

Valian Years.

V.Y.3500. In the time after the first wars against Melkor when the Valar had calmed the seas, lands and mountains and had made their new home behind the walls of Pelóri in Aman Yavanna and all the Valar went to the green hill Ezellohar and she hallowed that hill and for long she sat in the green grass chanting a song wherein she put all her power. Nienna watered the mold with her tears and all were silent save the sound of Yavanna and upon the hill two slender shoots came forth. From the second tree which was Laurelin, a golden rain fell on the ground and that Varda hoarded in great vats. Thus it came to pass that a new light was kindled but this time it only was in Aman behind the Pelóri while Middle-earth was still lying in darkness only lit by the first stars.

Valian Years of the Trees.

V.Y.t.1133. After the Elves had come to Valinor and the Teleri abode upon Tol Eressëa a gap was made in the Pelóri that the Teleri from their west-ward lands could see the light of the Trees.

V.Y.t.1449-1450. Fëanor made his three great jewels, the Silmarillis, that contained light of the Trees.

V.Y.t.1495. Melkor and Ungoliant assailed the two Trees and their life was spilled and consumed by Ungoliant but before all life was utterly gone Yavanna came to Ezellohar and laid hands on the trees and she perceived that some small life was still in the roots that could be saved with the light in the Silmarils if Fëanor would give them up but this he would not. Nienna then went to the hill and with her tears and song she washed away the defilement of Ungoliant.

V.Y.t.1496-1500. Long the Valar sat in silence but at last Manwë bade Yavanna and Nienna put forth all their strength and power upon the Trees and for long the songs of Yavanna was the only sound besides the weeping of Nienna and just as the last hope failed Laurelin bore a single flower and Telperion a fruit. Those Yavanna took and gave to Aulë and his Maiar made each a vessel. These were given to Varda who gave them power to travel the world from the east to the west but the dead stems of the trees the Valar let stand upon Ezellohar as a memorial of the light that was before the Sun and Moon.
