Ringil

One of two mighty pillars made for two great lamps to light the earth before the Sun and Moon and the two Trees. One pillar was named Ringil the other Helcar. The southern-most of these were Ringil where upon was placed the lamp Ormal. Originally Lingil was the northern pillar but became the southern.

The first conception of the mighty pillars tells that the southern great tower Melkor made in ice for Aulë`s lamp Ormal. But the idear of a co-operation between Melkor and the Western Valar was soon to be abandoned and the towers holding the lamps became raised by the Western Valar instead of the treacherous Melkor.

Valian Years.

V.Y.1500-1900. The two towers, or pillars, was raised between these years. The same years as the lamps were placed.

V.Y.3450. Both Helcar and Ringil was destroyed by Melkor and the lamps fell to the ground causing devastating ruin to the world. When Ringil with its lamp Ormal and Helcar with Illuin fell the shape and symmetry of Middle-earth changed in the turmoils. Almaren vanished in the floods of Ringil / Ormal, the Inner Sea and the Dark Lands was made and in the North was created, by the fall of Helcar / Illuin, the Inland Sea of Helcar.
