The One Ring
Master Ring.
Saurons Ring.
The Ring.
The One Master Ring to rule them all, Saurons ring.
The One Ring was created as answer to the Three Rings of power Celebrimbor made himself. Sauron thought he had done it in secret but Celebrimbor was aware of his intentions, he never let Sauron touch the Three and revealed him. The One Rings chiefest purpose was to control all the Elvenrings created and by them control and conquer his chiefest and strongest foes, the Elves. If he had been able to touch the Three they would have been exposed and have fallen under the control of the One Ring. When Sauron was in possession of the One Ring he could see where all the others were, save the Three, and see the thoughts of their possessors.
In the making of the One Ring Sauron laid much of his power in it. It had great power to reveal and command for its maker yet for others who might wear it it also had the power to be revealed for the will of Sauron.
For a mortal the Ring served as a bridge between two worlds, the world of spirits and the known world. If a mortal used it the world became shadowy and dim, the bearer was exposed to the denizens of the wraith-world and became an object to their weapons. The dark power of Sauron in it clouded the counsel of the wise and the mortal bearer began to fade and become a wraith. The fading was inevitable but the element of moral, will and the use of the Ring by / of the possessor resisted to some extinct the pace of the fading. The most obvious thing about the One Ring was its capability to make its bearer invisible. Another advantage of the bearer of the ring was the ability to understand the language of Saurons servants.
The One Ring was made of gold, it was perfectly round and unadorned like it was a lesser ring but it could not be destroyed, unless in the fire where it was made. Inside the ring was written in Elvish letters but in the dark tongue of Mordor, unreadable until it was heated : "One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them" That text proved it as the Master Ring.
