Dead Marshes.

The Dead Marshes were lying in the low land east south-east of Emyn Muil, between Emyn Muil, Dagorlad and Morannon, north-east of Nindalf and north of the Noman Lands. The size of the Dead Marshes were north-south 45 miles, east-west 60 miles.

The Death-Marshes were wide stagnant marshes were the spirits of the dead of the battle the Last Alliance, Battle of the Camp and Battle of the Plains were seen. The marshes had grown since the days of those battles and it swallowed up graves, creeping ever closer and the wind there were cold and had a stench of old decay and rottenness. The outer area of the marshes were like a wet meadow where the dry weed hissed like snakes but deeper into the marsh the reeds were no more. Dark green stagnant pools appeared in the fen where at dark or in night corpscandles slowly flickered in the mere`s showing dead faces of Men, Elves and Orcs coming forth below the flickering candlelight, pale faces, some foul, horrible and evil some noble and proud or sad with wet weed in their hair but all corrupted. They lied there in all the pools but could not be touched. They were like shapes or memories of beings long ago.
