Eriador.
Eriador was all the countries east / west between Hithaeglir, the Mountains of Angmar and Ered Luin and the Tower hills and north / south the Icebay of Forochel, Forodwaith / Northern Waste and river Glanduin which came from Hithaeglir running to Tharbad over Nîn-in-Eilph.
The borderline from Tharbad further east is uncertain but presumeably it would follow the river Greyflood to Lond Daer at the sea. This borderline would cut right between Minhiriath and Enedwaith but it would also leave Dunland and the Dunlendings out of Eriador and the direct influence of the Dunedains with whom they had not the most heartly feelings hence they were ancestors of the Numenorians.
From north to south in the eastern Eriador was the lands also lying in the Great Fens which in the south was covered by forest, the Southern Forest until at least Second age year 820.
In Eriador was the realm of Angmar and Arnor, later Arthedain, Rhudaur, Cardolan, and later again the Shire. Cutting through Eriador from east to west ran the Great East Road and from Fornost in the north to Tharbad in the south the Old North Road and the Greenway.
The land west of Eriador was mainly Elvencountry, with the Grey-haven at the Gulf of Lhun. East of Hithaeglir was the vales of Anduin and further east Mirkwood.
Some lokal areas was Ettenmoors, Coldfells, the Angle, Lonelands, Eregion /Hollin, Midgewater-Marshes and Bree Land.
Several rivers ran into and out of Eriador; Hoarwell, Bruinen, Glanduin, Mitheithel, Greyflood, Baranduin, The Water and the Lhun-rivers. The topography looks like a giant bowl with Ered Luin, Hithaeglir and the Mountains of Angmar as the edge with a inner circular ring of downs or hills; Emyn-Uial, Tower hills, White downs, Far Downs, Barrow Downs, South Downs, Weather Hills and the North Downs.
