In Gondor in the end of the Second age ( 3320 ) founded Isildur and Anarion the capitol of Gondor, Osgiliath, upon the harbors and castles the sailors journying from Númenor had already built, Osgiliath was build on both sides of river Anduin in the provinces Ithilien and Lossernach and upon the Great Bridge of Osgiliath with houses and towers connecting it to both sides. This great city, the fortress of stars, with its Dome of Osgiliath, became for the next 1657 years the chief city of Gondor though the Kings of Gondor had their seat in Minas Anor ( Later Minas Tirith.).

The very first years the Kingship is divided between both Anarion and Isildur, Isildur had his home in Minas Anor while Anarion was in Osgiliath but Sauron soon ( 3329 ) assailes Minas Anor and forces Isildur to retreat to their father in Arnor while Anarion bravely defends Osgiliath and Ithilien.

During the Kin-strife in Gondor Osgiliath suffered much damage. The Dome of Osgiliath was burned down and it vanished the Palantiri in the waters of Anduin. was dstroyed and the Palantiri lost. In T.A.1437 Osgiliath is burned down but the people i Osgiliath begins to repair and rebuild.

T.A.1636. The Dark Plague devastates Osgiliath. Telemnar and his children dies. Tarondor, his nephew, becomes king but due to the Dark Plague many of the surviving inhabitants flee to the western dales or into the woods of Ithilien. Osgiliath becomes largely deserted and begins to fall into ruins. Tarondor removed the Kings House permanently to Minas Anor ( Minas Tirith )
