Ost-in-Edhil.

Ost-in-Edhil the city of the Elves in Eregion. The city was founded by Galadriel and Celeborn in S.A.750. at the North brink of Glanduin near the junktion with Sirannon East of Nîn-in-Eilph.

In the trail of Galadriel and Celeborn was a Noldorin survivor of Gondolin named Celebrimbor, with an almost dwarvish obsession of crafts, in early tales he had been one of the greatest artificers of Turgon. Later the story of him was emended and that made him a son of Curufin who was estranged by his fathers deeds, remained and survived the sack of Nargothrond and followed Galadriel and Celeborn when they went East over Ered Luin. Celebrimbor soon became the most renowned smith in Middle-Earth and Ost-in-Edhil, a city with many great Elven-smiths with close relations to the dwarves in Moria and later, when the Numenorians arrived at Lond Daer and founded Tharbad, it grew in pover and might.

In S.A. 1200 Sauron came, disguised as friendly, himself to the city and the Elvensmiths welcomed him as a great teacher in craft and the smiths in Ost-in-Edhil learned much from him. Galadriel and Celeborn saw and knew his intentions but they were unable to convience the smiths and at last Sauron persuaded the Elves to revolt against Galadriel and Celeborn. In 1350-1400 Galadriel left Eregion through Khazad-Dum to Lorien but Celeborn would not enter the Dwarf-mines and he remained in Eregion disregarded by Celebrimbor.

The Elven-smiths reached the heights of there skills in 1500 and the smithying of the great Elven-Rings began but they were in the end decieved by Sauron who made the One Ring to Rule them all yet Celebrimbor found out about this in time and the War between the Elves and Sauron began.

Ost-in-Edhil was destroyed in S.A.1697.
