Almaren

Established in the Valian Years 1900. Destroyed in the Valian Years 3450.

The lake where the Valar made their dwelling upon a green isle in the midst of Almaren in the days before days. Almaren was between the two lamps Illuin and Ormal in the midst of Arda and because of the blending of the light of the two lamps all things were richest in growth and fairest of hue.

The Valar had their abode upon Almaren in the spring of Arda. It was destroyed in the tumults caused by Melkor`s attack upon the two lamps Illuin and Ormal standing on the two mighty pillars / mountains Helkar and Ringil.

Now Melkor knew of all that was done for even he had secret friends and spies among the Maiar and he was filled with hatred and jealousy of the work and he gathered to himself spirits out of Eä and sneaked in the north into Arda again. Then the Valar knew that Melkor was at work again and they sought out his hiding but Melkor trusted in the strength of his servants and fortress and he struck the first blow and assailed the lamps and overthrew the pillars. Seas arose in tumult and mountains crumbled and fire poured out over the Earth. Almaren vanished in the floods of the falling Ormal and the waters pouring out over the world created the wide strait between Belegaer, the Western Sea, and the East Sea in the south below the Hither Lands and in the north were Illuin stood upon the pillar Helkar was made the Inland Sea of Helcar.

The Valar, now without any dwelling place, moved to Aman.
