Born in Valian Year ? Died in ?. ( In the earliest Annals of Valinor it says " These...were written by Pengolod of Gondolin before its fall...and after his return into the West". Returning into the West can only mean he was born in Valinor or before the Elves came to Valinor but there is no further indication of a year for either birth or death.)

Pengolod and Gilfanon, in many aspects seems to be the same character. They both, when we hear of them, are Elves of Eressëa and of the Noldorians, they both live in Tavrobel and are both collectors and to some degree authors of writings about the same issues. In fact C.Tolkien believes that Pengolod do derive from the character Gilfanon.
Pengolod of Gondolin, and thus most likely Noldor
though not explicit said to be, recorded and wrote down the battles and stories of Beleriand.
In his later days in Kortirion upon Eressëa he rewrote, added things of his own and continued, to Rúmil
of Valinor`s work, the Annals of Valinor and the Lhammas ( the Account of Tongues ) but his main concerns were
directed towards the Annals of Beleriand. What he added to Rúmil`s writings were chiefly things Rúmil
could not be knowing and further explanations. What he wrote is among what Eriol
/ Ælfwine was told, read and translated from the Golden
Book.
