T.A.2770. Girion was King of Dale when Smaug descended upon the Lonely Mountain and destroyed the region and Dale but Girion`s wife and son escaped down river Celduin and survived. Girion paid the Dwarves with Girions Necklace for a mail of silver to his son.

There is no records of whether Girion survived or not but I assume he did not since Bard was not lord or king of Esgaroth but "just" a captain of a regiment of archers in Esgaroth.
