Dale.

The city Dale was lying in the broad valley between the two southern spurs radiating from the central peak of the Lonely Mountain in Erebor. The city had once been a thriving city of Men but when Smaug descended upon the Lonely Mountain in Third age 2770 the city was laid in ruins and abandoned. When Dale was founded is unknown. But before Smaug the city of Dale was beautiful, rich and many bells were ringing in the city and Dale had much trade with Elves in Mirkwood and Esgaroth south in the Realm and with the Dwarves living inside the Mountain.

The realm of Dale were the city, Esgaroth and much land beyond the southern end of the Long Lake and the great falls of river Celduin and the Forest River. The falls could in still evening air be heard like a distant roar. The Lord of Dale were in the time of Bilbo`s journey Bard the Bowman who were succeeded by his son Bain who`s son Brand was the lord in the time of the War of the Ring.

The city was rebuild by Bard in Third age 2944 after Smaug was slain in 2941 and Bard also became king of Dale.
